Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-absorbing resin having little content of residual monomer in resin and extremely low in decomposition to low molecular weight compounds after heating and to provide a process for producing the resin. SOLUTION: The production process of this water-absorbing resin is characterized in that, in the production process of the water-absorbing resin involving a polymerization process of a hydrophilic unsaturated monomer, an acidic group- containing monomer expressed by the formula [(n) is an integer of 1 or more; X is one kind or two or more kinds of functional groups selected from a group consisting of H, a monovalent metal, NH4, NH3R1 and NH2R1R2; R1 and R2 are identical to or different from each other, and they are each a substituting group which forms a primary amine or a secondary amine] is not used as the hydrophilic unsaturated monomer. Further, when the water-absorbing resin is obtained via a polymerization process of a hydrophilic unsaturated monomer, the resin has the content of residual monomer in the resin after drying in an amount of 0.1 wt.% or less, and the degree of decomposition to low molecular weight compounds is null after heating of the resin at 150 deg.C for 1 hr.
