Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the grinding process and to improve the working efficiency by approximately simultaneously executing the cutting, the polishing of a cut surface, the polishing of a grooved part and the chamfering of an edge part in one process through the first through fourth grinding surfaces. SOLUTION: In the grinding wheel, a first grinding surface 38 is formed on a predetermined position of an upper side of a projection 20 on which the abrasive grain 34a of large diameter is fixed, and cuts one end of a shaft part 37 of an engine valve along the direction approximately perpendicular to an axis. A second grinding surface 40 is formed on a curved surface 33 of a swelling part 22 on which the abrasive grain 34b of an intermediate diameter is fixed, and forms a grooved part 50 having a circular arc-shaped section to an outer peripheral surface of the shaft part 31 of the engine valve. A third grinding surface 42 is formed on a stepped part 28 on which the abrasive grain 34c of small diameter is fixed, and precisely finishing grinding the cut surface of the shaft part 37. A fourth grinding surface 44 is formed on an inclined surface 36 on which the abrasive grain 34c of small diameter is fixed, and polishes an edge part of the shaft part to chamfer the same. By using this grinding wheel, the grinding operation can be executed in one process.
